The Epic of Everest

The Epic of Everest 550“The sequences in Nepal before the climb, of daily life among the Sherpas and their families, are of rare and magical ethnographic value.” –Daily Telegraph

In 1924, George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, two of the world’s most famous climbers attempted Everest, in an expedition filmed by Captain John Noel. In addition to the startling footage of the mountain itself, Noel turned his hand-cranked camera on Tibetan villages and monasteries. But the star of this film, shown in a brilliant restoration from the British Film Institute, are the Himalayas. Featuring a new score by Simon Fisher Turner.
