SFJFF: Salon Talk: Weimar on the Pacific: Paradise Found, Paradise Lost

The Santa Fe Jewish Film Festival presents
STARS IN THE DARKS: Salon Talk: Weimar on the Pacific: Paradise Found, Paradise Lost

Join two special guests by Skype, Lawrence Weschler, National Book Critics Circle Award Winner, and Margit Klineman, Director, Villa Aurora Los Angeles, as they reveal the flourishing German-speaking community on the shores of the Pacific in Los Angeles that grew starting in the early 1940s. They were filmmakers, composers, writers and scientists who left Germany as Hitler rose to power, often moving to other countries seeking safe haven before coming to America. They found stimulation and connection in the salons of Salka Viertel and Marta and Lion Feuchtwanger, with guests including Thomas Mann, Bertolt Brecht, Arnold Schoenberg, and Ernst Toch (Weschler’s grandfather).

2:00p Friday, May 29 - Followed by European pastries and coffee!
