Rooted: An Indigenous Short Film Showcase and Panel

  • Center for Contemporary Arts Santa Fe 1050 Old Pecos Trail Santa Fe, NM, 87505 United States (map)

Santa Fe Conservation Trust and Trees, Water & People invite the community to a free evening of Indigenous short film and conversation centered on Rooted: A Story of Rematriation, a short documentary about Indigenous access to ancestral homelands and cultural harvesting, shared stewardship, restoration and relationships to land, inspired by the Traditional Harvest Project in southwest Colorado.

The film shares the story of a collaboration between the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, private landowners, Trees, Water & People, Montezuma Land Conservancy and other conservation partners. Together, they are expanding access to culturally significant plants and ancestral landscapes while exploring restoration, shared stewardship and emerging tools such as cultural access easements. Directed by Treston Chee. 2026. Approx. 22 minutes.

Following a welcome from SFCT and TW&P and an introduction from the filmmaker, the screening leads into a moderated panel with Roxanne Swentzell, Wyatt Wilson and Ariel Patashnik, moderated by James Calabaza, followed by an audience Q&A.

Doors 5:30 PM. Program 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Free, with registration on Eventbrite.

Presented by Santa Fe Conservation Trust and Trees, Water & People, with Montezuma Land Conservancy.
